This piece marks a significant milestone in my early career as an artist. Not only was it the first piece I entered a competition, but it was also the first of my pieces to make to a final of a competition. It was also the first original piece I sold, and it was sold to Georgina Lamb, daughter to David Shepherd.

My aim with this piece was to shine a light on the destruction of habitat that continues to happen in Borneo and Sumatra. I wanted to capture a look of hopelessness on the face of the Orangutan, using negative space to suggest consciousness and awareness of the destruction around him.
